Inside Line Promotions, JETMORE, Kan. (May 29, 2011) – It has been anything but a winning season for Brady Bacon.

 

Entering Sunday’s American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner event at The Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kan., last year’s ASCS National Tour runner-up had a string of DNFs and hadn’t found Victory Lane during this trying season.

 

However, on a night with howling winds and fierce tempers, the 21-year-old notched his first win of the season in a wild 30-lap feature during the finale of the 3^rd annual Steve King Memorial presented by The Oil Medics.

 

Bacon inherited the lead when contact between Brian Brown and Derek Drown, who were in the top two positions, sent the duo spinning in turn four with approximately 10 laps remaining in the ASCS Sooner Region/NCRA feature.

 

The Broken Arrow, Okla., native then outlasted Saturday’s winner Jack Dover to pick up the victory on a night with strong gusts that effected the competition.

 

“The wind made it really tricky,” he said. “You had to do some stuff a little different to compensate for the wind.”

 

The track was dry all night, making the bottom the coveted piece of real estate in the feature. Brown, who started second, led from the first turn on the opening lap until the contact with Drown late in the race. That opened the door for Bacon and Dover, who traded the lead after the restart on back-to-back laps before Bacon led the final half dozen laps.

 

“This place is just really good to us,” said Bacon, who has won three of his last four races at the Steve King Memorial after sweeping it last season.

 

“This is the place that turned my season around last year and hopefully it will turn it around this season.”

 

Dover finished second and earned the title of overall champion, which awarded him a $2,000 bonus and a unique pedal car as a trophy.

 

“That helps us out a lot,” he said. “We weren’t even sure about coming out here with the way fuel prices are.”

 

Drown, who crossed the finish line third, was disqualified for a second straight night for failing inspection. Garry Lee Maier was awarded the position, with Danny Wood and C.J. Johnson rounding out the top five, respectively.

 

Jeremy Campbell was sixth, Colton Treharn finished seventh, Ryan Roberts ended eighth, Preston Peebles III placed ninth and Jon Freeman earned a top 10.

 

Roberts and Freeman claimed victories in the two B Mains, with Roberts recording the win after Zach Chappell was disqualified.

 

Bacon, Treharn, Dover, Brown and Taylor Velasquez topped the heat races.

BOURKE WINS URSS FEATURE AT STEVE KING MEMORIAL

Colorado’s Patrick Bourke topped a field of 37 United Rebel Sprint cars on a wind-swept night on the plains of Kansas at the Steve King Memorial in Jetmore, Kansas.  With wind gusts of 40 – 50 MPH Lacrosse’s Kirby Hagans and Dodge City’s Steve Dalton brought the field to the green flag with Hagans jumping into the lead by turn 1.  Hagans lead the first 2 laps until a red flag halted the field when Brian Herbert clipped a spinning Bob Shaeffer and tumbled a couple times.  Herbert was not hurt but was unable to continue the race.  Hagans would lead the field on the re-start with Josh Fairbanks in 2^nd, Jordan Randles in 3^rd, Jeff Radcliffe  in 4^th, and Patrick Bourke who had moved up from 11^th to take over 5^th. Hagans would lead while Bourke wrestled third from Randles on lap 9 and set his sights on the Fairbank, taking the spot from him on lap 13. Bourke, who had to transfer out of the first of two B mains, would make quick work of Hagans and take the lead on lap 15.

Meanwhile back in the pack Raymond Seemann was steadily working his way to the front after transferring from the B main and starting 17^th. By lap 16 he had moved into 4^th relegating Randles to 5^th. On lap 20, Fairbank would slip past Hagan for second and set sail for Bourke. Seeman would also slip by Hagans on lap 22 and would quickly close the gap on Fairbank. On the last lap Fairbank would catch Bourke in lapped traffic and stuck a nose under him going into turn three only to have Bourke close the door and drive off turn 4 to the checkers.  Seeman would finish a close third to claim the Keizer Wheels Hard Charger award, with Hagan 4^th and Jordan Randles posting his best finish of the year in 5^th.

Heat race winners were Barry Crane, Josh Fairbank, Kirby Hagan, Brian Herbert and Steve Dalton.

The United Rebel Sprint Series will be back in action next Friday night at the Famed Belleville Highbanks with the World of Outlaws and Saturday night they will make their first appearance of the year at the Bullring in LaCrosse KS.
